About The Festival
The South Delta Jazz Festival (Tuesday July 6 through to Saturday July 10th, 2010) is a week-long music workshop as well as a concert series.
Workshop
This is an exciting opportunity for music students of all ages to learn about jazz and improvisation from musicians and educators active in the field.. Students spend most of their time playing music in small groups and learning jazz repertoire and improvisation. Classes in jazz history and theory, and master classes with visiting guest artists are also integrated into the program of instruction.
The instructional component of the Workshop is open to young people and adults aged 12 and up. We have had a very diverse range of students attend over the past few years from high school students to retired seniors. The interesting mix of people makes for a rich learning environment in which we build strong community connections and the unique opportunity for young students to work with adult students creates a rich learning environment that is extremely beneficial especially to the younger students. Students in the past few years have come mainly from Delta, with many coming from various other communities around the lower mainland and even as far away as the BC interior. .
Concerts
There are daily noon-hour concerts and an evening concert featuring local and international guest artists performing with the Jazz Workshop faculty. The concerts are open to the public. The noon hour performances at the community centre are free of charge. There is also an evening Jam session hosted at Petra’s Coffee house in Tsawwassen.

Support the South Delta Jazz Festival
The Festival, now in its seventh year has been largely self-supporting through tuition fees and concert ticket sales.
Tuition fees alone can only support a limited number of faculty members and guest artists, which restricts the scope of what the workshop can offer
